A2P
Due to the rise of applications such as Whatsapp and Blackberry messenger, P2P (person-to-person) SMS will continue to reduce in volume. P2P tends to involve one person communicating with another (or a handful at most). A2P (application-to-person) involves businesses talking to thousands of staff members or customers simultaneously, which these apps simply cannot replicate. Enterprise A2P SMS is therefore predicted to grow as it remains the only way to communicate quickly and cheaply with large audiences and to reach every age, every demographic and every type of handset.
P2A
Text messages can also be sent in the other direction, in what is known as P2A (person-to-application) messaging. This means that the consumer starts the mobile interaction with a company, sending an inbound SMS to an application. Examples of P2A messaging include media voting & competitions, opt-in & subscriptions and text-to-win campaigns.
OTP
OTPs (One Time Passwords) are dynamic passwords mainly used in the banking and financial industry, but are increasing used in enterprises. OTPs are session-based and time-restricted passwords that make unauthorized access to restricted resources more difficult than with static passwords. By using OTP via SMS to authorize transactions in environments such as online banking, companies ensure a 2-factor authentication and avoid malicious attacks from various sources.
